The “Compensation Decisions” file provides a listing of each individual award determination issued by the VCF. The file is updated weekly and is inclusive of all decisions rendered since 2013. The following information is provided for each decision:
Date: The date the Special Master made the compensation decision. If more than one compensation decision has been made for a single claim, the date listed is the date of the most recent decision.
Award Type: Indicates whether the decision is the initial compensation decision made on the claim (“New”) or an amended decision (“Revision”).
Claim Type: The VCF processes Personal Injury claims and Deceased claims. “Deceased” claims are claims for individuals who died of causes directly related to their 9/11-related eligible condition.
Injury: The VCF compensation decision is based on the claimant’s 9/11-related condition. These conditions fall into three injury categories – Cancer Only, Non-Cancer Only, and Combined. The “Combined” category is used to identify those claims whose eligible conditions included both cancer and non-cancer conditions.
Claimant Category: Indicates if the claimant self-identified as a responder, survivor, or was unknown.
Award: Indicates whether the decision includes compensation for Economic Loss (EL) or Non-Economic Loss Only (NEL) as defined in the VCF’s regulations. NOTE: claims awarded Economic Loss also include a Non-Economic Loss award as part of their total award.
Award Range: The total award amount falls within the range provided.
